Delphic / Mirrors @ King Tuts 22/01/2010

With electro pop seemingly set to be the sound of the decade it is no surprise that tonight’s show is sold out. Openers this evening are the very smartly dressed Mirrors, a four piece from Brighton, whose self-labeled “pop-noir” is just what the expectant audience need to start the show. Their set includes debut single “Look at Me” (below) and current single “Into the Heart”, both of which provide perfect examples of the optimistic sound they create. On tonight’s evidence they could well be headlining this very venue or equivalent within a few months.

The eccentric dancing is another benefit of this genre – anything looks cool when accompanied by music like this. While this up and coming band could perform all night they still have to make way for tonight’s headliners.
Delphic have shot straight into the forefront of the electro-indie scene, thanks to their third instantly brilliant single “Doubt”, which comes complete with eye-catching video and recently released debut album ‘Acolyte’.
Tonight’s show proves to be as much a visual treat as well as an amazing sounding one. An overdose on the smoke machine soon sets off the Tut’s fire alarm. However, the band are not daunted in the slightest and after a short break they start up, making up for lack of atmospheric smoke with bright lights and raw passion which makes the performance really stand out.

This sets the bar for the rest of the show but Delphic do not show any signs of struggling to keep the crowd enthralled, pouring their heart and soul into every song they play. As well as their three singles Delphic get through plenty of songs off their new album including the wonderfully catchy “Red Light”.
The audience are packed in front of the stage but are so eager to see more that no one moves until the band have finished their encore, the ever perfect “Counterpoint”. Since the release of their first single Delphic have come a long way in a matter of a month since they graced the Optimo stage and judging by tonight’s show they will continue advance both in confidence and popularity as the year progresses. Definitely a must-see for all electro pop fans.
